Liking Canon on Facebook has allowed me to keep up with the latest products from Canon. I have always been a fan of shooting videos and photography, and can remember well the glorious day of September 17th 2008 Canon announced the arrival of the Canon 5D Mk II. This SLR was the first of a generation to include full frame video recording capabilities. Along with interchangeable lenses this camera was the first to truly give video the filmic look that film makers had been waiting for.
In 2010 I began my search to find a video camera to record a number of scripts that my friends and I had been chatting about over the last couple of years. I had already owned a number of Canon point and shoot cameras and had used the very limited video capability of those cameras to get some film ideas across. I decided that the DSLR Canon 60D (An improved and less expensive version of the 5D Mk II) was the filmmaker’s camera for me; it boasted HD resolution at 1080p as well as a 24 frame per second recording rate. (24 frames a second is what 70mm movie film is exposed at.)
Since then Canon has been upping the ante on their Cinema line of cameras to keep up with other video cameras in the market. Most recently they have put forward The Canon Cinema EOS C300, a 20,000 dollar professional level camera for film makers. They have continued in that vein with the release of the Canon 5d Mk III which has much improved video capabilities than its predecessor, as well as remaining an outstanding stills camera.
