Virginia Mason Medical Center’s
content is revealing and interesting to its followers because they only post
information that the followers would want to know about. They don’t overload
their followers with unnecessary information or promotions. Rather, they help
to inform followers of news and health events, both local and national. I previously
mentioned that they have separate Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube accounts; one
as the main page and the other for careers. They do a great job of keeping
information relevant on both accounts with each type of social media site. Having
these separate accounts shows that Virginia Mason is thinking ahead about the
content they post. They want to make sure they don’t mix career related content
with other sorts of information. Content is important on social media, and it
seems that Virginia Mason is aware of that.
The article What Makes a Social Media Influencer states “Content is king, but
context is queen. 50% of respondents said that the single most important action
a person or brand can take to increase their influence online was to “create,
post or share compelling content”. Virginia Mason handles content well. For
example on their main Facebook page you will see facts such as “The liver is the 2nd most important organ in your
body, performing jobs vital to your overall health” while on their
career Facebook page you will see headlines such as “Find out why being an Optimist will get you ahead in your career”.
Lastly, the article Importance of Content Curation discussed
“content curation” which basically means saving your prospects time by having
easily available, relevant information for them. Thus by using this practice
you will save prospects time, while also gaining their trust. Content curation
works in three steps: Identify, organize, and share. An important statistic to
point out: “58% of participants in a 2009 survey clicked on a news article that
agreed with their views vs. 43% clicked on a news article that disagreed with
their views”.
