Goodwill Seattle

Goodwill Seattle is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide jobs, job training, and education to those in the community who are in need. The services that Goodwill provides to these people are funded by donations and through sales in their thrift stores. Given their structure of both a retail store and an outreach program I was very impressed by the balance of content they provided through their internet channels, especially on their website.

When first landing on their main webpage their mission statement is very prominently displayed and easily gives viewers the impression that this organization is primarily focused on helping those in need. At the bottom of the page there are two sections, one for success stories of people who Goodwill has helped, the other was for notifying what sales were going on in the stores. I thought these two sections were very good things to have especially on the front page, however when going to the success story page I was disappointed that there were only three short stories. I think this is one area where Goodwill can improve, adding more stories will help viewers get the sense of the success that Goodwill is having. Perhaps this can be extended to their youtube channel which is another area Goodwill can improve on. The most recent video on their channel is from 7 months ago, far too long for their channel to drive any significant gains. If Goodwill started a regular series highlighting success stories I think that it would be very powerful.

I was overall very impressed by the content that Goodwill has on the web. It was far more extensive and organized than I thought it would be and I believe that they have very good potential for expanding their presence not only in the community but online as well. I would seriously consider taking their success stories and expanding that content. These kinds of stories can touch people emotionally in a powerful way and I think is a great opportunity for expanding Goodwill's influence.
