One of the organizations that I “like” on Facebook is the non-profit organization called One Day’s Wages. Founded in Seattle in 2009 the purpose of this organization is to help lift people out of extreme poverty (people who live on less than US $1.25 a day) by having people donate just one day’s worth of wages. About 2 billion people in the world live on less than US $2 a day but if people would donate just 0.4% of their annual income then the hope is that will make a big difference.
The cause of this organization is something that clicks with me. I feel inspired by its cause and by the things that it’s trying to do. One of the great things about “liking” their facebook page is that I am always aware of news and stories that ODW publishes. Especially being a locally founded organization I am able to see who else in my networks support this organization and connect with them. I think that putting a lot of their content on the web is tremendously helpful in making me feel connected with the organization and other supporters of it.
Using facebook as a hub for connection with an organization is a great strategy. It makes it very easy to connect with other advocates, supporters and customers of an organization. I get a greater sense of community even though I might not personally know many of the other people who also “like” something. Facebook is a great way to facilitate relationship between the organization and its supporters.
