Virginia Mason Medical Center


Virginia Mason Medical Center is an award-winning, nonprofit health care organization offering a network of primary and specialty clinics around Seattle”. They are very involved in social media. They are constantly updating their social media sites, keeping them relevant. They have a Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and a LinkedIn account. Not only are they focused on their main business, but they are also focused on finding talent. They have separate Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube accounts regarding careers. In addition to the various social media websites, they also sponsor CaringBridge; “a charitable nonprofit organization providing free websites that connect families and friends when someone is facing a serious health event, care and recovery”. Virginia Mason exclusively mentions Caring Bridge in their “Join the Conversation” page.

As mentioned, the Facebook pages along with other social media are constantly updated. The last post on the main Facebook page was updated 5 hours ago sharing a link concerning whopping cough disease in Washington State. They have tons of information on the Facebook page regarding health concerns all around Washington State. Patients and employees have visited the page to post their experiences with the hospital. They share many links, and include many posts on the page.

The main Twitter account is active with 1,739 followers. It is always being used to inform people of updates. The career account is used to inform people of career opportunities and such. The main YouTube account uploads various videos regarding the business while the careers YouTube account uploads videos regarding their recognition, employees, etc. Of course, the LinkedIn is also used to inform people of careers, giving applicants access to recruiters at the company.
     
I thought that having separate Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube accounts regarding careers was a good idea especially for companies always looking for talent. It is good because such companies are always seeking talented employees, and social media is useful way of getting the word out. By using separate accounts for careers, they are specifically targeting individuals who are interested in such careers thus following them.
