Pacific Science Center on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube

Pacific Science Center is up-to-date in their attempt to be a part of the social media communities. They are on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Flickr, and YouTube. The presence of Pacific Science Center on these social media sites is beyond just to encourage current/potential customers to come visit the science museum. Out of the five social media sites, I would like to just focus on Pacific Science Center's presence on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.

With respect to its presence on Facebook, Pacific Science Center have generated 14,625 'likes' as of the writing of this post. They provide a simple general information such as address of the location, hours of operation, phone number, link to their website, as well as a little description of the science museum under the about section of its page. Furthermore, one thing I like about the museum's Facebook page is that they maintain it on a regular basis, providing the most up-to-date contents on current attractions, exhibits, activities, festivals, and many more. In addition, they often post relevant contents from legitimate sources on its Facebook page that are related to the world of science, complete with the link that will direct audiences to the landing page. In terms of customer service on its Facebook page, Pacific Science Center is open to any comments, feedback, and questions that the page visitors might have and respond to them one by one; even not only the one who maintains the museum's Facebook page that make a response, but also its employees which somehow surprises me. Moreover, Pacific Science Center have done a relatively good job in terms of posting pictures of events that have occurred in the past, anything related to science, etc. One recommendation that I can think of regarding the museum's activities on its Facebook page is to be more interactive with the page visitors. For instance, they can post several trivial questions that are related to science everyday that is intended to encourage visitors, ranging from elementary to college students and adults, to participate and at the same time allows them to gain a great deal of knowledge about science.

As for Pacific Science Center's Twitter page, they currently 6,050 followers and have generated 4,724 'tweets' as of this time of writing. On the top of the page, they provide a brief description about the museum, complete with a link to its official website. Pacific Science Center maintains its Twitter page very well, posting updates on a regular basis. I like the fact that most of the posts are relevant information related to the museum's activities. They promote current and future events, exhibits, shows, and many more, increasing followers' awareness on what is currently happening on the museum as well as what are the events to expect in the near future. Another proof that shows Pacific Science Center's well maintained Twitter page is that they re-tweet other users' posts on their page, quickly sharing those users' tweet with its all followers. Furthermore, they also post great pictures   related to science, events, activities, etc. In overall, I personally think that Pacific Science Center has done a great job in maintaining its Twitter page, providing followers with the latest information about everything relevant to what the museum offers. Here is a screenshot of the museum's Twitter page:

I personally do not think that Pacific Science Center's activities on YouTube are as effective as Facebook and Twitter. As of this writing, they only have 170 subscribers with a total video views of 548,823 from 83 videos. With respect to the videos they posted, many of them are movie and documentary trailers that are played or going to be played in their IMAX theater although there are some short advertisement clips promoting their current and future events. The fact that their presence on YouTube has not generated a large amount of users' awareness should become an encouragement for Pacific Science Center to utilize this one specific marketing tool. With the huge amount of YouTube users, I think that the museum should start to pay more attention on creating and posting videos that are attractive and at the same time, interactive. They can also start concentrating on creating an advertisement that will capture target audiences' attention and post it on YouTube. In addition, Pacific Science Center can also post a video related to science and technology, and provide a brief information about the topic of the video and may also provide a link to a relevant article/study about it. This would allow viewers to be fascinated about science and also gain an insight about it. I feel that Pacific Science Center has not put that much attention to YouTube as they do with Facebook and Twitter and that I think they need to start utilizing this amazing marketing tool.
