Nordstrom's Online Branding

Nordstrom is well-known for having outstanding customer service.  This also translates onto the social media outlets such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.  Nordstrom listens to customers needs and exceeds their expectations.  They have built their brand around this philosophy.  They have taken advantage of social media channels to use as an extensive of their brand.  Their online branding is directly related to their marketing agenda of pleasing the customer at all costs.

Nordstrom has over one million fans on Facebook.  That is a huge number!  As Facebook is primarily a visual social media site, Nordstrom posts many pictures of their products.  Different styles are shown for the changing seasons as well as silly pictures of the popular pomeranian "Boo" shopping around the departments store.  Nordstrom maintains and fun and stylish atmosphere on their Facebook page.

Nordstrom has a lower number of followers on Twitter (over 100,000), however, I see this number greatly increasing if they keep up how they are currently tweeting.  They apply the 80/20 rule beautifully.  The ask their followers questions about what their favorite style is for spring, and also respond promptly to customer questions and/or issues with ways to solve them.

Nordstrom also uses YouTube as a successful marketing tactic.  They have about 2.5 million video views.  They include styling tips for many of their diverse products including multiple "How Tos."  The filming of their videos seem to be of high quality and precision.  This matches their inspiration to offer high end products.

Nordstrom has done a fantastic job aligning their online marketing plan with their image.  It is almost as if the same person is running all accounts.  They obviously have placed social media of high importance and therefore making either being a fan or following their channels enjoyable for customers.
